A Very Busy Day

Today feels like a whole week in one day.  It started with work this morning.  Then I got off at noon due to parent teacher conferences.  The boys had a snow day with school being canceled, so we had to change our plans from a romantic lunch date that was originally planned with Shannon to a family day out and about.  We started with lunch at BW’s.  For the food…that’s the reason the boys picked it…not for the candy machines…

IMG_0160 IMG_0163After lunch it was run a few errands then home to start work on our snowman before Patrick’s doctor appointment.

He was very brave getting his kindergarten shots!  He started out unafraid, then got a little unsure. So Daddy held his hand.

Our neighbors built an awesome full sized snowman and of course the boys wanted one.  I have never been successful in the snowman department. But never one to want to disappoint my boys, I decided to give it a try.  We’re very proud of what we ended up with, even if it’s not quite full sized.  The neighbor boy Javion was quite innovative and helpful with adding arms and shape to our little guy.

Frosty.  Complete with Lego eyes and buttons and a carrot nose.

Now at this point, it had been a full day and you would think we would be done.  I know I thought we were as building that little guy was quite hard!  BUT the boys really wanted to hit the hill with the sled and I know the snow will melt soon, so we loaded up and headed out before dinner.

And with the nice covering of ice, man did they fly down that hill!  You can’t hear it due to the wind (go ahead and just mute the sound), but they are screeching and laughing so hard with that first slide down.

And I LOVE the joy on Patrick’s face here.  They stayed for almost 45 minutes sledding along with neighbors and had a blast, which means I was happy, too.  Plus, it wasn’t a rough lot for me to sit in the warm van just a few feet away while they sledded. 🙂

Then it was home for a few rounds of Uno and movie night with my boys.  A very full day and I’m now exhausted.  But so worth it.

Way Back When…

We spent the last two days of Christmas break busy!  First up, the promised trip to the Pottery place. We told the boys we would go over summer break when we had a rainy day.  Then the drought hit and we didn’t have rainy days!  So once Christmas was over, we loaded up four boys and took them to a pottery place.  As I walked in, I momentarily thought, it’s like taking four bulls into a china shop!  Eek!

IMG_0260But they all did a fabulous job!  All four boys worked so hard and so diligently on their chosen projects.  My boys chose banks.  Patrick saw an adorable penguin and everyone saw Mac’s project before he did…a firetruck.  It was a huge project and I was concerned it would be too much as his first project, but he stuck with it and loved the process.

Then the day before heading back to school and work, we headed to the Urbana Aquatic Center hoping to have some fun swimming.  While the boys enjoyed being in the water again, it just wasn’t the same as Sholem and swimming outside.

I Caved

As a rule, I can’t stand those pictures people post on Facebook.  You know the ones that have ‘inspirational’ sayings or even scripture on them.  I know, it sounds terrible. Everyone loves them and shares them around all the time.  Then there’s grouchy me. They just annoy me.

I’m also not a huge fan of Valentine’s Day. I’m not sure why. It’s just not a holiday that I like.

Having said that, here was one shared today that I actually liked.  It’s just as corny as the others, but it rang true to me and so I thought I’d share it with you.

Happy Day!

I was quite nervous about taking the boys to the dentist this time.  They both are at the age that they brush pretty much on their own.  I’m there to remind them to do a good job and make sure they actually brush, but they do the work. So I was anticipating this would be the time the cavities would begin.  So we went and waited for each to be seen by the dentist.

Where's Mac?

Where’s Mac?

But I was wrong! No cavities for either boy!
