Skating!

When we were younger, Nicki and I loved to roller skate.  And just for the record, I was better than her at it originally!  As my ability to skate faded, so did my love for it, while Nicki’s continued.  When I hear of her taking her boys skating, I always figure it’s something my boys just won’t have much practice at.  Then church announced Family Skate Night.  For a minute I was sad for Mac.  He has begun asking to go roller skating and I have been putting him off.  I know I can’t take him and I actually have no idea if Shannon roller skates…again, it’s an activity we’ve just never discussed since I can’t do it.  As I was thinking of a way to take him, Nicki leaned over and said, let’s take the boys!  So, we did.

Mac is like me, cautious by nature.  If we try something and aren’t successful, we tend to give up.  So I was nervous for him.  After falling the first dozen times, he sat next to me and started to complain.  I figured, Well that’s it.  We might as well leave.  But after watching everyone else fall a few times, he got up and practiced more on his own.  I was very impressed!  He didn’t give up.  His hard work paid off and he got much better by the end of the evening.  He didn’t want too much help from Nicki or Matthew, much to Matthew’s disappointment.  He even raced in the boys’ race!  Here’s a very quick clip of him skating.  He’s the cute blond in the middle. 🙂

It was a very fun evening.  Meme bought Patrick his own pair of skates and even he had a blast.

Still Smiling

This was in Mac’s backpack yesterday.  It made me laugh.  Isn’t he the cutest butterfly you’ve ever seen? 🙂  I still smile just thinking of it.

Oh Happy Day

That’s right, it says 81 degrees!  I didn’t even care that it was so windy it could knock me over.  It was WARM. 🙂

Exciting Milestone

Okay, it might not seem all that exciting, but Patrick has outgrown his booster seat.  This thrills me!  When Tara was here last weekend, I took the seat off because we needed the chair.  I decided to see if he missed it.  When we eat out at restaurants, he doesn’t use a booster and he’s fine, so I was hoping that he didn’t need it at home either.  There have been a few times he’s felt the need to stand up as he can’t reach the table, but has refused the seat, preferring to sit without it.  I’m happy to oblige him. 🙂  Again, it might not seem exciting to you, but it’s one more step toward an adult house.  I’m at the stage in life where I’m over having kids. Don’t get me wrong, I love them.  And I know they’re growing insanely fast and the time is flying, but I’m over all the stuff they put in the house.  I’m ready for adult phase again.  So, I celebrate each step towards that.
