Summer Break? Where are you??

Okay, I have been a horrible blogger this summer.  I went on a reading binge.  Now that my kids are a little older, I got more reading done than I have since they were born.  So…I took pictures, but never could find the time to update the site.  I’ve done it all and there are a ton new posts.  You might have to go back a bit to see all the new ones.  There are also new random pics in the July and August albums on the photos site.
So…there.  I’m caught up. 🙂

Farewell Pool

In honor of our last days at the pool, I took a few shots and video to let you see how far both boys have come in the water…all on their own.  Last year, Mac taught himself to swim.  This year, Patrick started working on it.  He gets in and underwater, but the actual moving will have to wait till next year.  Still, I cannot say enough how proud I am of both boys.

T-ball – Success

So Mac’s four week t-ball clinic is finished.  I was rather happy with how it worked.  The last two weeks they walked the kids through a game.  How to bat and run the bases and how to throw to first base while in the field.  I really like seeing the fundamentals taught.  And the other parents were so encouraging, cheering all the kids as they batted and fielded, calling out individual names.  So cute!!

Mac's fans.

In the end, I asked him how he liked it. “Well, baseball is boring.
I had to stand there a lot.”

“So are you done playing?”

“No. I’m going to play again.  I like it.”

Derby Time

With Mac’s love of cars and Patrick’s love of anything Mac loves, I decided they would really enjoy a demo derby.  I saw that the fair was having one, so I asked Shannon if he would be interested in taking the boys.  As a rule, he does not set foot anywhere near fairs, so I figured it was a long shot, but still worth asking.  To my utter surprise, he agreed (and made me fall in love with him a little more, if possible).  So here are my boys having a blast.

It’s a Fair Day

Every year I make Nicki and her boys go with us to the fair.  It’s just something I want my boys to experience.  I am not, in general, a fair person, but I am an ‘any opportunity to ride a ride’ person.  So I want my kids to have those opportunities.  So, when I found out that the fair has a ‘kids’ day each year, where each kid gets 5 free rides, I decided to take the kids as long as they qualify.  Last year, I had a fear that Matthew was too big as he didn’t seemed thrilled with the rides, but he still enjoyed it this year, so we got another year out of him! Woohooo!  This was the first year that Lukie was too big, so that was sad.  But he did go with us and got to ride on the ferris wheel trip that we all take part in (I don’t think I have to force Nicki into that.  She always seems more than ready to do that with me.) 🙂

Anyway, this year was just as much fun, even though it was the hottest day of the week.  We kept our visit, this time, to just the five free rides which put us there for an hour.  Not too bad, but we were definitely ready for the AC when we were finished.
