Open House 2012

Rushing from soccer practice, we headed first to Patrick’s classroom.

He wasn’t convinced this one was his…even though it has his name on it. But we’ll assume he made this one.

Then on to see Mac’s classroom where the teacher had promised a surprise the class had set up for the parents.

Student of the week!

(Please excuse the holey [I did not know this was how you spell ‘full of holes’ and apparently neither does spell check…] shirt as we came from soccer practice where I could care less what they wear.)

It was worth the anticipation. So adorable to see himself, that he made, sitting at his desk.

Mac as a fly.

Patrick as a fly.

Explanation from Mac:  The bottom row of people in the picture above are Uncle Robert, Aunt Letitia, Mommy and Daddy. He just didn’t get them written.

His guy came home the next day.

Star Student of the Week

It’s Mac’s turn in his class to be one of the Star Students of the Week.  We had to make a poster highlighting him.  I had a blast getting my scrapbooking tools out and putting together the ‘simple’ poster.  Mac helped select the pictures, crop them and glue them on.

He couldn’t quite understand the concept of overlapping the pictures. He kept telling me, “Those are touching, Mom!”  I didn’t even try to explain, but left them.  He was okay with it, so all was well.  We actually take so many pictures, it was quite hard to narrow it down to what would fit on the star.  But the end product is quite marvelous, if I do say so myself.

Along with the poster, he had to write about his family and fill out a page of his favorite things.  He did a great job of writing so carefully. I can’t wait for Open House this week to see it all displayed in the classroom!

His First Reading Test

I am very proud to say he earned a 100 on his first reading test.

I was a little bummed when I found out he was in the reading group that was reading “Dan the Tan Man” as opposed to the group reading “Fishing with Grandpa”.  SO as any good teacher mother who finds out her son is in the ‘Blackbird’ reading group and not the ‘Bluejays’, I quickly pulled up the story (benefit of being a teacher and having access to the online reading books the school uses!) and had him read “Fishing with Grandpa”.  And I’m pleased to report he can read it!!  So, I’ll console myself with the fact that he can do it and we’ll just work on that higher reading group’s titles at home!

For Daddy

Patrick recreated some Star Wars scenes while playing with dominoes tonight.  I would like to point out two details that he mentioned to me.  Notice the light sabers in hand and that Vader is obviously bigger and taller. 🙂
