And Last But Not Least: Mac’s Band Concert

Mac plays the the trumpet. When he started playing guitar, he had to practice at home a lot. His lessons were only a half hour on the weekends, but he had to work all through the week at home. Because of that, I got to hear him progress. With band, he does most of his practicing at school. I mean, they have band every other day. That’s a lot of playing in a week, so he doesn’t practice a lot at home. So with the band concert quickly approaching and I hadn’t heard him play much at home, I started to get a little nervous that it wasn’t going to go well! Then he started practicing more at home to get ready and I was pleasantly surprised! He can play the trumpet! 🙂

Dressed and ready to go! SOOO handsome!

Matthew’s band played after Mac.

Enjoying Matthew’s concert.

I was also pleased at the concert that they could play songs as a band! The song I selected to share shows his enjoyment. Here he is enjoying the music while he plays. 🙂

Christmas Lights

Like any other family, our boys love to drive around and look at Christmas lights in neighborhoods. I saw on Facebook that there was something called Mcintosh Christmas Lights Show. I thought it was a neighborhood light show. But when we got there, it was just one family that does their house and sets it to music. If I had researched better, I would have known this! So the boys were bummed when we pulled up. Then we tuned in to the radio station that was posted…

We went home happy. 🙂

Next Up: Rehearsal for Church Program

Well, it wasn’t really a program. It was Kingdom Kids leading worship. And the boys didn’t want to go. But I made them go to rehearsal. But they didn’t go that Sunday. Whatever. Apparently, it was pure torture for Mac to be up there anyway. I guess he’s too old for stuff like that….

Before the practice we had a pizza dinner. We had some time to kill before it started, so Patrick stole my phone.

Again, he looked ready to be sick.

Patrick wasn’t super thrilled either.

And just because it makes me laugh out loud, I have to share the clip I took to show Shannon their enthusiasm:

But they did give me cute smiles afterwards.

First Up: Patrick

Patrick’s program was fabulous. He sang. He motioned. He did not smile, but that’s okay. We actually got there early enough that we had front row seats!

I selected two of the songs I enjoyed the most. 🙂

Just a story or two

I was talking the other day to Nate, Kimberly and Nicki about this blog. Nate was surprised I still had it going, Nicki is happy I update it so she can see things as she’s not on Facebook and Kimberly noticed that it’s mostly just pictures anymore and less of a blog. I told her it was because the boys are no longer little and there just aren’t those cute stories to share anymore.

Then I remembered I had jotted down a couple of things I overheard the boys saying and thought, I’ll share them now!

So without further ado…

Overheard from the back of the van:
Patrick: “I feel good with coke and a milk shake.”
Mac: “Of course you do. You’re the sugar master.”

Watching Mac play on his tablet:
Me: “I love how serious you are.”
Mac: “Well, I don’t want to die (in Minecraft).
Me: “But you do that in your school work, reading, baseball. You work your hardest and give it your best. I love that about you.
Mac: “Well, I don’t want to fail! And I don’t give up!”

Let me explain why I felt these were worth sharing and remembering. The first one is just funny because even Mac knows our Patrick. Patrick loves junk food. He always has and always will. It is a fight to get him to eat dinner. He say he’s not hungry. But a half hour after dinner, every.single.time. he’s starving and ‘needs a snack’. He would rather skip the healthy and just eat the junk and sugar. Mac is not that way. He rarely snacks. He’d rather have a huge meal and not have to eat anything in between. He also doesn’t prefer sugary snacks and foods the way Patrick does. So different.

The second story is shared as a testament of Mac’s school year. This kid is rocking it. Fourth grade was rough on him. He struggled with keeping track of his assignments, staying organized and just the growing demands of the upper grades of grade school. I had to stay on him all year long and he still had missing assignments and was constantly losing homework, etc. I was a nervous wreck for this year! I happen to know a thing or two about fifth grade and I know that it’s a lot of self management and more responsibility for the student. I just knew that it was going to be a really long year. Yet, he has proven me wrong from week one. He is working his butt off. He has 0 late assignments this year! He always brings home his homework and currently has straight A’s. He stays current on his assignments and even works on projects ahead of schedule! I am beyond proud of his work ethic. It make me think that maybe something is sinking in! 🙂

So there you have it. Not so much the funny stories from when they were babies. But more thought provoking and indicative of them growing up on me.
