I Was Lost, Now I’m Found

We lost our first DS game a couple of weeks ago. Mac left it on a restaurant table.  I called several times, but was told that no, it was not there.  We had a great idea of going back to the booth and seeing if it possibly fell down the side of the seat, but couldn’t find a time when there wouldn’t be customers dining.  I know it’s just a game.  I know it’s not really a big deal, but I was sad.  He and Patrick are really into Sonic these days and it was his current favorite game.  Shannon and I have this ‘rule’ that we won’t replace electronics that get lost or broken.  It’s just too expensive and we’ve told the boys, that if they lose or break one, it will not be replaced (the only exception might be for a birthday or Christmas presents, but that has never really been discussed).  He was handling it well.  He didn’t ask for a replacement, but he was sad about it.

Then, tonight we headed to dinner at THE restaurant a little early and noticed there was no one in the booth.  When Shannon asked if we could maybe take a look, the hostess said she thought she might have seen it, and low and behold, it was at the front counter ‘lost and found’ bin!  Mac was very thankful and excited to have his game back.  I was so glad that he behaved so well with it missing, so he could enjoy his ‘reward’ of having it back.  He even thanked God for allowing him to have it back. :)

My Boy

I must start with the problem.  Valentine parties are always tricky in school.  I tell my students, if you bring a valentine for one person, you must bring for everyone.  Hurt feelings are so hard to deal with with kids, so I try to avoid it as much as possible.  If you have a special gift for one person, give it outside of school.

Tonight we went to buy the boys’ valentines for their school parties. As we were looking over the many theme choices for cards, Mac saw a Hello Kitty heart of candy and said, “Oh, Joanna would love this one.”  I thought, how kind of him to pay attention and know what others like.  Thinking of my rule, I told him that was sweet, but we really needed to move on.  So we focused once again on which themes they wanted.  After much deliberation, Patrick chose Happy Feet and Mac chose Transformers.

Since we were just running in for valentines, I decided we didn’t need a cart. However, by the time we got the cards, treats, teacher treats, etc…each of us had full arms.  So we headed to the checkout.  As we’re checking out, across the scanner comes…a Hello Kitty heart full of chocolate.  “What is this?” asks Daddy.  Mac’s adorable little face was more than this mommy heart could take.  I couldn’t make him put it back.  To think that he saw this and thought of someone else was so great to see.  His giving little heart.  He didn’t blink an eye or question whether he should or shouldn’t.  He just knew Joanna loves Hello Kitty.  She would love this valentine.  So now…I have to figure out how to get a single valentine to one little girl.

Add one more to the “I’ll never…” list.

I Wonder Why

4:50 PM -Daddy shows the boys a video of monster trucks.  The boys are impressed.

4:55 PM – Daddy informs the boys they’ll be going to see the monster trucks next weekend.  They are ecstatic.

5:00 PM – Mac says (in a tone I could tell he was trying to be as kind but honest as possible), “Mom?  I love Daddy just a little more than you.”

Just a typical morning…

  • make breakfast for boys
  • sign Mac’s homework
  • prompt boys to finish breakfast
  • pack Patrick’s rest time items
  • prompt boys to finish breakfast
  • make Mac’s lunch
  • prompt boys to get dressed
  • make my lunch
  • prompt boys to get dressed
  • pack Patrick’s crazy hat homework
  • prompt boys to brush teeth
  • Mac’s show and tell
  • prompt boys to brush teeth
  • Mac’s snacks for snack day
  • prompt boys to car
  • prompt boys to car
  • prompt boys to car
  • leave on time

I kept repeating this list to myself all morning long.  I had to get all this accomplished from 6:45 – 7:15.  Normally, I would have had several of these things done the night before, but we had had a crazy evening with grocery shopping, homework, baths and all without Daddy because he was at a school meeting.  By the time the boys went to bed, I was too tired to do one more thing!  So it all fell to this morning.  And you know what?  I got it all done! I was so proud of myself.  The whole way to work, I congratulated myself for a job well done.  Then I looked around for my lunch to head into work.

It’s still in the fridge.
