The Latest Debate

Well, it’s not really a debate, but more of a questioning I’ve had for myself.  I’ve never enjoyed Halloween.  As kids, our family didn’t participate in it and for some reason, I developed a dislike for dress up and all that goes with it.  I just don’t enjoy a holiday where people are scared or act creepy.  I know that most people don’t do creepy or scary. I don’t believe that those who participate are evil. I don’t believe that it’s even an evil holiday.  Again, I just don’t enjoy it.  Mac has never questioned really.  He has always been a little afraid of Halloween decorations in stores and such and developed his own dislike for it.  This year, however, Patrick practically begged to do it.  He wanted to dress up so badly.  So I questioned my reasons for not participating and even talked to Shannon about it.  I asked if it was unfair that my dislike for the holiday should keep the boys from having fun.  After talking to several people, of both sides of opinions about the holiday, I came to the conclusion I would stick with my conviction about participating. But no reason Patrick couldn’t dress up with costumes!

So I promised the boys that we would go the day after Halloween when they’re all on clearance and get costumes.  Here’s what we ended up with:

What a great idea! There are definitely scary costumes to be seen when you are out and about, or when you hand out candy on Halloween, so this is a good way to avoid that part.
