Progress

I am having so much fun seeing Mac in his school year.  He has had homework, a program, school pictures, field trips, projects and now…a progress report.   I was amused and slightly puzzled when he received an ‘Excellent’ for staying focused on a task and in arts and crafts and “Good” in all other areas.  I mean, he isn’t exactly the most focused 5 year old and always struggled with arts and crafts, as I’ve shared previously.  And just ‘Good’ in all the other areas?  His teachers are always ‘bragging’ on him and saying how smart he is and well behaved, etc…Are they just saying those things…why?  Anyway, while I was happy about his two excellent areas and a little bummed that he wasn’t excelling in more areas, I was glad there weren’t any  Needs Improvement areas!  Then I turned the card over.  Turns out “G” means he’s mastered an area and “E” means it is an emerging skill!  So he was perfectly fine in all areas but two!  That’s more like it!!

Then I read the comments section.  I decided to read it to Mac and you should have seen his face glow. 🙂

“Always tries to do what is right.”  I have to say that this is one of my goals in parenting.  To get my children to want to do what is right, not just because they have to, but because they want to.  I’m so pleased that Mac seems to be grasping some of that.

We’re so proud of him!
